Paraben Free. Phthalate Free. Say What?
Many cosmetic companies today are transforming their brand into a more clean route by making their products paraben- and phthalate-free. In case you're wondering what the heck are Parabens and Phthalates (you hear them all the time but never really knew), the two are widely used in cosmetic, food & pharmaceutical products.
After much research, I discovered that using makeup brands with these ingredients can be harmful with too much consumption and if used frequently. The Ayari's Brides team is working towards adding more safe & clean products in our makeup kit. But in hindsight, they may not provide longevity. Let's be honest, you definitely want your wedding day makeup to last as long as possible. But the truth is, using certain palettes with these ingredients on just 1 day, let's say your wedding day, won't be enough to cause long-term health effects.
However, I do believe it's important to continuously educate my clients. And so here we are...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PARABENS are synthetic compounds used as preservatives to prevent bacteria growth. Sounds like a good preventive measure. But, it's also possible for parabens to negatively impact the immune system, and may increase allergies and sensitivity. Yuck!⠀Since the chemical structure of parabens are not water-soluble, they get absorbed into your skin. Too much absorption can cause serious health effects. Methylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, and Ethylparaben are the most commonly used parabens in makeup and skin care products.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PHTHALATES (pronounced Tha-Lates) are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break. They are often called plasticizers and are known to have damaged livers, kidneys, lungs, and the reproductive system! Yikes! They may also cause an imbalance in hormone levels.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So will you now think twice about what to put on and inside your body? Start looking at labels before purchasing if it's an item you're going to frequent.
